Shifting bookings direct without starting a price war

Rate parity does not stop you from making the direct channel better.
Most hotels try to win the direct channel with price, discover parity constraints, and give up. But guests do not only choose on price, they choose on what they get.
Benefits are the lever. Early check-in, a welcome drink, a room-type guarantee or points toward a free night are all things an intermediary cannot offer, and none of them require breaking parity.
The second lever is memory. An OTA has to re-acquire your guest every time. You do not, if you have the relationship and permission to use it.
Practically: make the member benefit visible on your booking page, mention it at check-out, and send one honest message after the stay. That is the entire programme for most properties.
Measure direct share of member stays separately from overall direct share. The first tells you whether the club is working; the second is mostly a reflection of your market.
