What AI is actually useful for in a hotel, and what it isn't

Not chatbots. Noticing the patterns nobody has time to look for.

The useful application of AI in a small hotel is not conversation. It is attention. You have data that contains obvious signals, and nobody has an afternoon free to look for them.

Examples that pay: members who used to come twice a year and have not booked in fourteen months; a reward that has been visible for six months and never redeemed; a property whose members never return to the other houses in the group.

The output should be a sentence an owner can act on, not a chart. 'Fourteen members are one stay from Gold, a small nudge is likely to convert them' is useful. A cohort heatmap is not.

Be suspicious of anything that writes guest-facing text without a human reading it. Tone is part of your brand and a generic message undoes the recognition you built.

Used narrowly, AI is a second pair of eyes on your own numbers. Used broadly, it is a way to publish things you would never have said.

Writing for hoteliers.
